Great Day of Service Registration

Meet at 8:30 am in the fellowship hall for a brief commissioning service and a light breakfast.  At 9:00 a.m., we’ll be off to job sites.  Please sign up soon because there are limited spaces for some of the projects. 

Please bring your own lunch and water.  Please contact Suzanne Clegg or the Team Leaders below with questions about the individual service projects. 

All volunteers are asked to bring grape jam for Sack Kids Hunger!  Also, coats and blankets are needed!   Donations will be given to Sack Kids Hunger families and the North Gwinnett Co-Op, which serves local residents.

  1. Buford Thrift Shop: Team Leader – Patti Davis, (404-660-1241). Volunteers are needed Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Especially Wednesday, September 20, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. because this date is the .25 cent sale! Sign up for a 2-hour shift to hang out donations.
  2. Music Ministry: Team Leader – Gary Lenz, 9:00-12:00  Assist with office tasks like filing and organizing.
  3.  Mats for the HomelessTeam Leader – Kathryn Rodriguez,  9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Learn how to make “yarn” out of plastic grocery bags, then crochet them into a thick mat for the homeless. Bring a pair of good scissors and a large crochet hook, size 10 or larger! The team will stay in the Fellowship Hall and work. 
  4. Gateway House Shelter in Gainesville, Team Leaders – Jack and Deeana Rindfusz,  9:00-2:00. Help with yard work at this Shelter in Gainesville that serves many women fleeing domestic violence. Volunteers must be 18 or older and must sign a waiver.
  5. North Gwinnett Co-Op: Team Leader – Lesley Madden,  9:00- 12 p.m. Help stock shelves, organize food items, and hang clothing for this local food bank/clothes closet. Volunteers should be in high school or older.
  6. Work on the Church Grounds: Team Leaders – Kenny Karr,   9:00- 1:00  We will be spreading mulch, cleaning up the playground, and pressure washing. Bring a shovel and rake; if you have a wheelbarrow we can use, let us know!
  7. Bake and Take: Team Leader – Betsy Grissett,  9:00- 12:00   Families or individuals will participate in a rewarding activity to personally connect with homebound members by delivering baked goods and sharing God’s love with those members unable to worship with us in person. Volunteers are asked to bake cookies/treats at home, then package them at the church. Prior to home deliveries (starting around 10 am), we will use the 9-10 hours to write cards to send to other members that we have missed seeing at church. All supplies will be provided, except for your 1-2 dozen baked goods.
  8. Sanctuary Clean-Up: Team Leader – Linda McQuaig, 9:00–1:00 Remove wax from carpet, clean and polish woodwork, do thorough dusting and other “spring cleaning” tasks. Please bring cleaning supplies and gloves. 
  9. Sack Kids Hunger: Team Leader – Pam Billingsley, Help 9:00 –12:00  as we will fill sacks, decorate sacks, and make sandwiches, or sign up for the12 –2:00 p.m. session when we will be handing out lunches. Children are welcome with their parents. If you have never volunteered for SKH – now is a perfect time! Space is limited. 
  10. Gwinnett Children’s Shelter: Team Leader – TBA, 9:00–2:00 Plan to help with porch clean-up, organizing and cleaning, plus trimming bushes! Wear your work clothes and bring hedge trimmers, sponges, and buckets. 
  11. Cat Rangers Rescue in Buford: Team Leader – Brad Thomas, 9:00–12:00 Help out at this no-kill shelter by cleaning, landscaping, and playing with some cats! 
  12. Rip and Roll Bandages:  Team Leader – Debbie Atchenson, 9:00- 12:00. Cut and roll bandages from donated sheets for a Mission Hospital in Ghana, Africa. They are always in desperate need of bandages. It helps them so much!
