By Suzanne Clegg:
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Like 2: 8 – 12
I enjoy singing with my granddaughter, Wren. Last Christmas we fixated on “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and we are singing it again this Christmas. She says “Nana! I can’t get that song out of my head!”
It was easy to learn and had such beautiful imagery! You can just picture every scene. Plus it has such a beautiful message. As I sing it over and over, I begin to think about the words, and what they might mean to me at Christmas.
Said the Night wind to the little lamb, “Do you see what I see?”
Do you see what I see? Open your eyes at Christmas, and see the love of God. Take time to look beyond the glow and glitter to the reason we celebrate, and ask God to help you see the miracle of God becoming a child for your sake.
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy, “Do you hear what I hear?”
Do you hear what I hear? Open your ears to hear the incredible message from our God, of His love for us and His care. Listen to the words of the carols, take time to hear what your loved ones are saying to you, listen to the words of scripture and the message on Sunday. Open your ears and listen!
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty King, “Do you know what I know?”
Do you know what I know? Take time to reflect on your knowledge of God’s work in your life and in our world. Take stock in what he has done for you personally so that your knowledge of Him is established and strengthened in your life and in your soul. There will always be questions we are seeking answers to, but as we reinforce those things we KNOW are true, it helps to build our faith foundation!
Said the King to the people everywhere, “Listen to what I say!”
Listen to what I say! Look for opportunities to share with others this great news of joy, that God loves us enough to enter into our world as one of us, to love us even though it means suffering and death. Share this great news, just as the shepherds did as they left the manger scene-
Luke 2: 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they heard and seen…
Who can you tell this good news to today?
Prayer:
God of Christmas, help me to truly see, hear, know, and tell of your beautiful gift to us, Christ the Savior. Amen.
