“On the Second Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, Two Turtle Doves.”
Two turtle doves! When I sing that part in the song, so many memories come to mind. I think of couples that are inseparable, I think of animals, that mate for life, and I also think about Home Alone 2 when Kevin receives two turtle doves from the toy store owner. Kevin then gives one to a homeless woman as a reminder that there is always someone who is thinking of her.
When I also think of two turtle doves, I think of another pair, the pair that we have in the Bible in the Old Testament and the New Testament. These books have many differences yet work in tandem together. Giving us history, law, family relations, life lessons, and the story of Jesus Christ and all the good he did. The two testaments have stood the test of time to encourage, teach, and inspire us to do what is good and right. Like turtles doves, the Bible and ourselves should never separate from one another. We are truly a pair for life!
Dear God, thank you for giving us your Son so many Christmas nights ago. Thank you for also inspiring so many to write down the love you share for us in the Bible. It is truly the wonder of your love! Amen.
