Bahamas Mission Trips
Many of the adults and youth at Buford First have taken several mission trips to the work in at the All Saints Camp in Nassau, Bahamas to help build and repair homes for its residents.
All Saints Camp serves as a place of refuge for the poorest of the poor in Nassau. Many of the residents there are all alone in this world, have HIV or AIDS, and have no where else to turn.
During our mission trips, we have been able to do some basic construction and maintenance work around the camp to help the residents get along better in their day to day lives. We were also able to bring much joy and happiness to them (and to us!) by forming lasting and loving friendships. We will never forget the sweetness and kindness of residents like Garvin, Michael, Ms. Maxey, and so many others!
The contrast between the beautiful resorts on the beach, and the very poor just a few miles inland is striking. We were blessed to be able to do something to help the loving people at All Saints Camp and to take part in such a life-changing experience.
Central Conference Pension Initiative (CCPI)
The Central Conference Pension Initiative (CCPI) is a long-term solution that provides retirement financial security for dedicated church leaders and surviving spouses who would otherwise have little or nothing. Our church pledged and was able to raise $10,000 for CCPI.
The Youth Ministries of Buford First support a young girl in Africa through Compassion International. Each month, we collect donations from middle or high schools students in our church youth program and send these donations to the young girl through Compassion International.
Whenever there is a natural disaster, we give through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). We also give to UMCOR every year through our Alternative Christmas Project.
