I have two children. My oldest attended a church preschool program, so when we joined BFUMC, we were so excited that they had a church preschool that our younger daughter could attend. Grace was enrolled in the 2-year-old program and then again in the 3-year-old program – we were so pleased. However, when she turned four, we had the opportunity to place her in a state-funded pre-k program that would allow us to have both children in the same school, which logistically sounded like a great idea. What a mistake we made. The church program was so much better rounded, focused, and loving, with a strong Christian foundation. If we could have done it again. we certainly would have left her in the BFUMC preschool for the Pre-K year. I would highly recommend the program to anyone, especially when compared to a state-funded program. The school is top-notch.

About Us
Buford First UMC Preschool offers a variety of experiences for your child to grow physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. A child should be the age of the class registered for by September 1, 2024 (we follow the Gwinnett County School calendar with the exception of start and end dates). Please note that Buford First UMC members and their siblings receive a 10% discount on these rates.
There is a registration fee equal to one month of tuition that is non-refundable due at the time of registration. There is also a one-time Activity Fee for $100. This fee is used to cover expenses associated with in-house field trips, supplies for classrooms, activities throughout the year, and general operating expenses. We accept checks, cash, and payments through our Brightwheel App.
The student/teacher class ratios are 12:2 for Two’s and Three’s and 16:2 for Pre-K. We offer Chapel, Music, and Spanish. Available after-school activities include Creative Movement and Dance and Playball.
Program of Excellence
Buford First UMC Preschool first began in 1984. Our program is accredited through the United Methodist Preschool Association of the North Georgia Conference as a Program of Excellence. The Preschool is run by our Director, who is under the supervision of our Preschool Advisory Committee (PAC), which is made up of church members, Preschool teachers, and parents. The PAC’s purpose is to set tuition rates and other fees, approve Preschool budgets, and set policy for the Preschool.
We believe that the very early years of a child’s school years should be rich and happy. We strive to create an atmosphere where children are accepted and loved for who they are, where they are encouraged to communicate with adults and other children, and where they are guided into new experiences and shown the joy and wonder of learning. Our program has been planned to teach your child these skills and to provide experiences that will help your child grow physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
Curriculum
The Buford First UMC Preschool adopted Pinnacle’s Faith-Based Curriculum school-wide in 2005. It is a daily, theme-based program that is developmentally appropriate. Its hands-on, child-centered curriculum is designed to promote and develop emerging skills. The Pinnacle Curriculum enrichment areas include:

Preschool Staff
Leandre Majerus, Director of the Buford First UMC Preschool, joined the Preschool program as a teacher in 2006. She was promoted to Director in 2011. Prior to Buford First UMC, she was a public school teacher. Leandre is married with two teens.
Leandre’s interest in early childhood development comes from a genuine love for children. She personally enjoys the opportunity to work with the Preschool’s little ones. State-certified, she is an integral part of our school team.
All staff members and teachers are CPR, First-Aid, and fire safety certified. All staff members annually complete at least 10 hours of classroom training that is certified by Bright From The Start.
