Sack Kids Hunger
Every Saturday, 12:00 – 2:00 pm (also, pack sacks from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm)

Workers are always needed to help assemble bags and make sandwiches from 10 am to noon every Saturday.  We are also in need of volunteers to assist with the distribution of the sack lunches from noon to 2 pm every Saturday. For information on volunteer dates that are available, contact Sack Kids Hunger at sackkidshunger@att.net.

Santa Claus Visits Sack Kids Hunger!

Santa Claus recently made his long journey from the North Pole on Christmas Eve and made a visit to Sack Kids Hunger to help pass out special gift bags (with crayons, a Christmas activity book, a Christmas eraser, Christmas pencils, candy and a toy) to Buford children.

A huge thank you to Santa Atlanta for donating the time and services of THE Santa Claus to help bring joy to the children of Buford.

2011 Round Robin Charity Tennis Tournament for Sack Kids Hunger
Friday, November 4, 2011 at Buford City Park

Our 2011 Round Robin Charity Tennis Tournament was held on the morning of Friday, November 4 2011 at Buford City Park.  For only $40 each, 16 players were treated to some fun tennis as well as lunch from our presenting sponsor Bon Bons Bake Shop of Cumming, Georgia.

The tournament was a great success as participants braved the unseasonably cold weather to help raise money and awareness for the Sack Kids Hunger program.  Congratulations to tournament champion Tonya Joseph of Buford and second place winner Leanna Brown from Sugar Hill.

A huge THANK YOU to Scarlett Auten for organizing and carrying out the tournament as well as all our volunteers, including Debbie Atcheson for weathering the wind and cold to be the official time keeper, and Tom Auten for all his help in setting up.  Also, a special thank you to Jane Hunter, Director of Buford City Tennis, for her guidance and use of the Buford City courts for our first 2011 Sack Kids Hunger Tennis Tournament.  Lastly, thanks to Pam Carter, owner of Bon Bons Bake Shop, for donating all the delicious lunches and desserts to all of our tennis players and volunteers.

Epworth By the Sea!  All rising 9th through Grads are invited!
May 26-28, 2012

Epworth By the Sea is a beautiful United Methodist Retreat Center on St. Simons Island, about a 5-hour trip from Buford. We stay in cabins and eat most of our meals in the dining room – YUM!  There’s a pool, lighted tennis courts, and lighted basketball courts.  We go to the beach, play some beach volleyball, see some United Methodist history, experience some discussion time, and have a BLAST!

Meet Saturday, May 26 at 8:00 am to load our stuff.  We return on Monday, May 28, 7:00 pm.

Cost is ONLY $109.00!  (2 youth in one family pay $99.00 each.)  Turn in a deposit of $30.00 by Sunday March 25 to save your spot.  Deposit is nonrefundable after May 15th!

5th Annual Buford First UMC Gary Ash – Bobby Dobbs Volleyball Tournament
Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Don’t miss this fun annual event!  As always, we’ll be out at the church property (4340 Old Hamilton Mill Road, Buford, GA 30518) at our very own beach volleyball court. Everyone is welcome to bring the family, set up a lawn chair or two, and watch the fun!  Hot dog meals will be for sale with all proceeds going to help the Youth’s mission trip to the Bahamas this summer.

Gainesville Aid Project (GAP) 2012
June 20-24, 2012

The Gainesville Aid Project (GAP) is a wonderful mission experience for youth going into 7th grade and up. The youth work on teams of around 7 with youth from other churches, doing yard work, and home repair for residents of Gainesville. The work is supervised by 2 or more capable adults. The youth stay at the Antioch Church Campground and eat their meals at Antioch UMC.

This is a great first trip for youth. Many youth return for years and years to this week of mission. It fills up quickly, so register soon!
