Buford First United Methodist Church Preschool
Please note that as we are transitioning to our temporary offices to make way for the building of the Christian Life Center that is set to start this Fall, our Preschool phone number (770-945-4161) may not be working from time to time.
If you are unable to reach the Preschool at our regular number, please contact the main church office at 770-945-7438 and ask for the Preschool or the Director of the BFUMC Preschool, Leandre Majerus. The Preschool email address is working, so you may also send any correspondence to preschool@BufordFirstUMC.org.
At Buford First United Methodist Church Preschool, we believe that the very early years of a child’s school years should be rich and happy. We strive to create an atmosphere where children are accepted and loved for what they are, where they are encouraged to communicate with adults and with other children, and where they are guided into new experiences and shown the joy and wonder of learning. Our program has been planned to teach your child these skills and to provide experiences which will help your child grow physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
Program of Excellence
Buford First United Methodist Church Preschool first began in 1984. Our program is accredited through the United Methodist Preschool Association of the North Georgia Conference as a Program of Excellence. The Preschool is run by our Director who is under the supervision of our Preschool Advisory Committee (PAC) that is made up of church members, Preschool teachers, and parents. The PAC’s purpose is to set tuition rates and other fees, approve Preschool budgets, and set policy for the Preschool.
The BFUMC Preschool adopted Pinnacle’s Faith-Based Curriculum school-wide in 2005. It is a daily, theme-based program that is developmentally appropriate and based on the works of Piaget, Gardner and Erickson. It is a hands-on, child-centered curriculum designed to promote and develop emerging skills. The Pinnacle Curriculum enrichment areas include:
- Creative Arts
- Dramatic Play
- Outdoor Activities
Leandre Majerus serves as Director of the BFUMC Preschool. Prior to being Director, Leandre started as a teacher with BFUMC in 2006 and then moved into the role of Assistant Director in 2007. She has personally led all of the Preschool’s fundraising activities, has all her state certifications, and has been an integral part of our school team. Leandre moved to Atlanta in 2004 with her husband Ben and two children Alexis and Zachery. Leandre’s interest in early childhood development comes from a genuine love for children and with two teenagers rapidly growing up at home she personally enjoys the opportunity to work with BFUMC Preschool’s little ones.
All staff members and teachers are CPR, first-aid, and fire-safety certified. All staff members annually complete at least 10 hours of classroom training that is certified by Bright From The Start.
I have two children. My oldest attended a church preschool program, so when we joined BFUMC we were so excited that they had a church preschool which our younger daughter could attend. Grace was enrolled with the 2-year-old program and then again with the 3-year-old program – we were so pleased. However when she turned four we had the opportunity to place her in a state funded pre-k program that would allow us to have both children in the same school, which logistically sounded like a great idea. What a mistake we made. The church program was so much better rounded, focused and loving with a strong Christian foundation. If we could have done it again we certainly would have left her in the BFUMC preschool for the pre-k year. I would highly recommend the program to anyone especially when compared to a state-funded program. The school is top notch.
I have been involved with the BFUMC Preschool for the past 4 years and it has been a wonderful experience! The preschool has given my two kids an excellent learning platform on which they can build throughout their educational careers. In addition, they have gained invaluable social skills, which will help them succeed. Finally, I know that those that love them surround them! Words cannot describe the peace of mind I have in giving my kids to the capable hands of the BFUMC Preschool. I am so proud that my children have and are benefiting from this excellent learning and loving environment.
