Church History

Church History

On Sunday, August 15, 2021, we celebrated 150 years of worship and service at Buford First United Methodist Church (BFUMC). During the weekend, we retraced the footsteps of BFUMC and Buford’s history with a .7 mile walk down Main Street, attended a homecoming concert and sing-along, worshiped together, and enjoyed a potluck luncheon.

If you missed the service or desire to see it again, watch here.

During our potluck lunch, we featured a slideshow of archived photos. View the presentation here.

We made the news! Check out our story!

Our Heritage

Established in a log cabin in 1871 a year before Buford incorporated, BFUMC has hosted a federally funded sewing program in its basement during WWI, written weekly letters to 103 soldiers during WWII, supported the formation of two local Methodist churches, founded the Lake Lanier Ministry, initiated the first AIDS Awareness program in the area, and continued to feed hungry children on Saturdays during the pandemic. A Bright Future at Buford First UMC

In March 2017, we opened our new Christian Life Center, a multi-purpose building adjacent to our sanctuary building. The new CLC consists of of our Preschool, adult and youth classrooms, kitchen and fellowship hall, Youth Lounge, gym, and lots of space that will allow Buford First UMC to continue to grow. The CLC is not only for our church members, but is a way for the church to reach out to the community through special events and missions outreach.

Buford First UMC is proud to be a church of worship, fellowship, and service. We offer opportunity for spiritual growth through our Children’s Ministry that includes our four-day-a-week Preschool, Youth Ministry, Adult Ministry, Music Ministry, Missions, and much more.
